I would like to invite your institution to become a member of the Consortium for Illinois Learning Communities (CILC). Institutional involvement with CILC has been crucial for our success during the past few years, and we hope you will consider becoming a part of our growing consortium.
CILC is committed to supporting academic institutions that offer interdisciplinary learning communities and other related pedagogies. Since its founding in 2002, CILC has sponsored open houses showcasing LC programs and practices at various colleges in the Chicagoland area as well as hosted faculty retreats for curricular and staff development. More recently, member institutions have received discount registration fees for the annual CILC Symposium, used CILC in-house experts for on-campus seminars, received evaluations of on-going campus LC initiatives, received specific calculations of financial gains that their specific institution could realize through LCs and the resulting increase in student retention, and had individual consultations with campus LC coordinators and CILC in-house experts.
Currently, the CILC is planning a number of initiatives for the coming year:
• We will be holding our next Best Practices Symposium at Prairie State College on Friday, April 4, 2014 (Please share the enclosed flyer with your faculty and staff).
• We are inviting member institutions to participate in a multi-institutional assessment project through the Washington Center to measure student engagement and learning, substantially underwritten by the CILC.
• We are developing the content for a Retreat in late May to address individual institution's needs. Teams from institutional members will be able to participate at a reduced cost.
• We also continue to develop our website (www.consortillc.org) to serve as both a resource for information and a gathering point where member institutions can connect to share their strengths and address challenges they face.
We hope you will renew your membership at the institutional level of $150.00. Becoming an institutional member will allow all faculty and administrators from your college or university to participate in CILC activities at a reduced fee. Further, member institutions may send representatives to participate on our Executive Committee, which directs the activities of the consortium. For those institutions with a smaller group of interested parties, individual memberships are also available at $10 per person.
If renewing your membership, thank you for continuing to support the work of this organization. Simply complete the Membership Form and return it with your check, made out to CILC, by Jan. 15, 2014. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at (630) 942-3421 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
